After more than fifty years of marriage, Jacques died peacefully in his sleep. Simone, his wife, was devastated by his death. Their life together had been marked by ups and downs, arguments and reconciliations, but above all by an unwavering bond.
Months passed, and as if her heart could no longer bear her husband’s absence, Simone also died. When she opened her eyes in the afterlife, she discovered a heavenly landscape of unparalleled beauty: cottony clouds, a soft and comforting light, and an atmosphere of absolute peace.
Suddenly, in the distance, she glimpsed a familiar figure… Her heart leapt. Jacques! He was there, very much alive – or at least as alive as a deceased person can be in heaven. A big smile lit up her face as she ran towards him, arms wide open.
“My dear! Oh, it is so nice to see you again!” she exclaimed, overwhelmed with emotion. She embraced him with all the tenderness she had accumulated during these years of solitude, kissed him passionately, with tears in her eyes.
But Jacques, slightly irritated, gently pushed her away and frowned:
“Oh no, Simone… Don’t give it to me! The priest was very clear: ‘Till death do us part!’”
Silence. Simone looked at him, speechless. Then she crossed her arms, pursed her lips, and said sharply:
“Well done! Fifty years together, and even in heaven, you still find a way to complain!”
